Bought this when I decided to 'cut the cord'. Live in suburbs of New York City about 40 miles from the broadcast towers (empire state building/Ge Building). I get 55 channels as a result. The signal booster that Winegard recommends didn't do enough, so I bought a motorola signal booster (another $40) and the combo of course did the trick. Hd signals are terrific, analog are fine. of course surprised at how good the Hdtv channels are.
I think the building is of course fine. This unit is mounted on my roof (30ft+ off the ground) and faultless exposed to the elements. Using j-mount, we've been straight through a couple windstorms and haven't of course had channels impacts. I extremely recommend an supplementary signal booster when you are this far from towers...it doubled the amount of channels (originally only got Cbs and Abc of the big four, after installing the motorola booster i got all of them).
Downside is directions are horrific - really. If you are mechanically inclined it should take 25-30 min to put together, which is how long it took me, but I could see it taking man much longer as a result of poor directions.
This is a Big unit, and not for attic installation.
